Childcare Assistance Resources

A guide for Bend, Oregon families navigating ERDC and other childcare assistance programs.

ERDC (Employment Related Day Care)

ERDC helps working families pay for childcare. If you're employed (or in school/training) and meet income guidelines, you may qualify for a subsidy that covers most or all of your childcare costs.

How to Apply for ERDC

  1. Check your eligibility at Oregon DHS Child Care
  2. Apply online through the ONE (Oregon Eligibility) system
  3. Or apply in person at your local DHS office in Bend: 1230 NE 3rd St, Suite A-130, Bend, OR 97701
  4. You'll need: proof of employment or training, income verification, and your child's information
  5. Once approved, choose a provider from our ERDC-accepting preschools list

Processing typically takes 30-45 days. Apply early, especially before the school year starts.

Oregon Pre-Kindergarten (OPK)

OPK is Oregon's version of Head Start for 3- and 4-year-olds. It's a free, high-quality preschool program for income-eligible families. In Deschutes County, OPK is administered through NeighborImpact.

Eligibility is based on family income (typically at or below 100% of the federal poverty level). Contact NeighborImpact directly for current availability and enrollment.

Baby Promise

Baby Promise expands infant and toddler childcare slots at participating providers. It helps families access quality care for children under 3 at reduced rates. Ask providers directly if they have Baby Promise slots available.
